George Wallace, The Northport Journal 1994 (three man show) “Northport Artists Return to Roslyn”

As for Candace Eaton’s large oil portraits they continue to challenge audiences. A new piece entitled “American Refugee” continues in this line, although more dignified and restrained. But added to these other works illustrate some of surreal, almost garish origins: horses hung by the neck in open skies; something called “Ouroboros”, an equine-oid figure emerging from an abstract shell-like cocoon. Some will recoil from these harsh uncompromising treatments, yet each reveals an unremitting, sharp-edged willingness to confront the viewer with the artist’s statement about and objectification in society……

Louise Law, The Observer 1992

“first-place winner Candace Eaton’s large oil portraits, including “American Sphinx” “American Working Girl”, American Osiris” and “All American Female Nude” each share in an unremitting study on the part of the artist. The subjects, all contemporary figures made slightly iconographic by suggesting both vulnerability and defiance; innocence and street wisdom; hope and suspicion. Ms. Eaton’s American Osiris” was shown at the Heckscher Museums HTAL juried competition…where its provocative character drew much attention”
